Using Toon Shading

You can make your 3D objects and characters look as though they are hand-drawn cartoons by using Toon Shading. Toon Shading is simple to apply and use, and it generally renders very quickly.

In this bonus chapter, you will learn to:

  • Create toon fills
  • Add toon outlines
  • Replace toon lines with presets

Toon Fills

A toon fill is a ramp shader that you apply to the objects in a scene. There are several Fill presets you can apply from the Maya Rendering menu set. Each one is a ramp shader with different settings designed to give you a starting point from which you can design your own custom look.
