The History of Java UI Toolkits
Almost 20 years have passed since Java was first released in 1995; the eighth major version was released in 2014. During these two decades, the IT world has rapidly evolved. The size, speed, and requirements of computer hardware have changed dramatically, as have the user interfaces of software. In 1995, computers were mainly used in offices, making a decorative user interface (UI) unimportant for most applications. Most dialogs consisted only of labels, text fields, and buttons.
