Industrial designers often find themselves in the position of having to produce images for marketing or as virtual prototypes for feedback on their designs. Although the rendering tools in Inventor, SolidWorks, and others may include mental ray as the rendering engine, oftentimes the tools are greatly simplified and leave you without adequate options for a truly photorealistic rendering. In this chapter, I cover how to create a rendering environment for your projects, how to post-process edit your renderings in the new 3ds Max Composite applications, and how to use the new solid-model import options for 3ds Max/Design 2011.
