Introduction

I started my career in the world of ERP and CRM back in 1999 when I landed a job as a support engineer for Great Plains Software, supporting Great Plains eEnterprise version 5.5. I had a management and economics degree and a natural affinity for computers, but I certainly didn't know anything about an ERP product or SQL Server. I also hadn't observed project management before, and I didn't understand the impact of it.

My career path at Microsoft (which bought Great Plains Software in April 2001) took several turns as I pivoted to focus on internal applications on which the support team relied, and I became the Support Operations Manager.
