Exchange Server 2016, similarly to Exchange Server 2013, 2010, and 2007, provides a role-based installation procedure. This procedure provides only two server-role choices: the Mailbox server role and the Edge Transport server role. As discussed in previous chapters, the former Client Access, Hub Transport, and Unified Messaging server role functionalities from Exchange Server 2007 and 2010 and the Client Access role functionalities from Exchange Server 2013 have been now rolled into the Mailbox server role, providing a simplified installation process and deployment architecture.
