6.2. Discovery
It is very important to complete the vision/scope document because it provides organization to the process. But discovery is the phase where you start to find the size of the project. Before you can determine what can be virtualized, you need to collect, or discover, the data about your environment. Once you have that data, you move to the analysis phase.
There is a lot of information to gather. You need to collect information about hardware, software, and performance on every server that is a potential candidate for virtualization.
