Remote Desktop Services in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 has a number of dependencies both within and outside the server on which it is being installed. The first of these is Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS).

ADDS?

Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) is new nomenclature for what we all know as Active Directory. With the release of Windows Server 2008, Microsoft began using Active Directory as a branding moniker under which falls an associated suite of product features. When you see ADDS referenced, think AD with a lot of enhancements. Also, Active Directory Application Mode (AD/AM) is now referred to as Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (ADLDS).
