2.2. What's New Since SMS 2003?
Configuration Manager 2007 had an interesting development cycle, unlike any of its predecessors. Because the product group had already nailed a solid, scalable, web-based architecture with SMS 2003, Configuration Manager 2007's development was just a natural progression of features to enrich the product. As the beta builds were delivered to early adopters and then the public, the product group found themselves in a beta cycle that was almost bug free. The number of developers needed to address and support the beta cycle was drastically reduced; thus, they were able to have developers work toward some of the Release 2 (R2) features. R2 was released almost a year after the initial release of the product.
