Exercise: steps for creating a grid

The following are the steps:

1. Open a new Tableau workbook and name the first sheet Header.
2. Using Excel or a text editor, create a Records dataset. The following two row table represents the 'Records' data set in its entirety:

3. Connect Tableau to the Records dataset.
   • To be expedient, consider copying the dataset using Ctrl + C and pasting it directly in Tableau using Ctrl + V.
   • Tableau will likely consider Records a measure. Drag Records to the dimensions portion of the Data pane.
4. Create two parameters. Entitle one Overall Pixel Count and the other Rows Down/Columns Across. The settings for both are as follows:
   • Data type: Integer
   • Allowable values: All
