17 Business Events and Business Use Cases

Business events are events that are significant to the piece of your customer’s business that you are now studying. Business events are also significant to requirements discovery because whenever a business event happens, the business must respond to it.

The response to a business event is a business use case or BUC. The BUC is a collection of the activities and data needed to satisfy the instigator of the business event. If the business event is a customer wanting to listen to a piece of music on a streaming service, then the response—the BUC—is to locate the music and stream it along with some recommendations for future listening.
