CHAPTER 7Data Access, Analysis, and Information Distribution
Chapter 6 described how to integrate and transform data so that it may be stored in constructs such as DataStore Objects, InfoProviders, and master data. This chapter picks up where Chapter 6 left off. This chapter has been organized into three main sections: data access, analysis, and information distribution. The discussion highlights the main services provided in SAP NetWeaver that access data and turns it into meaningful business information. Then the topics of information distribution via the Broadcaster are examined, as well as programming interface options available to tools that present said information.
Data Access
Chapter 3 introduced the data access and analysis services aspect of the SAP BW architecture. This section further explores these services. The data access services layer (as its name suggests) provides access to structured information stored in the SAP Business Information Warehouse. Structured information is retrieved through SAP BW InfoProviders, while unstructured information is retrieved from content management services. The integration of unstructured documents and structured documents has become an essential feature for business intelligence tools and is accomplished via shared metadata and the functionality available via the Enterprise Portal.
