4.2. How VMM and VMware vCenter Interact
vCenter is the management product offered by VMware to manage ESX virtual machine hosts. The server side of vCenter is the main task execution, policy, and resource management engine. vCenter Server installs as a service on Windows or Linux operating systems. The client component is the user interface into vCenter Server. The vCenter client connects remotely to the server over HTTP/HTTPS to retrieve virtual machine, host, storage, network, policy, alert, and task information stored in the database used by vCenter Server.
