12.5. Backup and Restore Using Other Tools
Although this chapter focused on how to back up and restore using SharePoint's tools, you can restore data in other ways. Let's look at IIS to start. All IIS Web Sites have configuration data, application pools, and file data. The configurations are stored in the IIS metabase (although you can separately backup individual Web Site and application pool configuration files). This is the data that you see in the IIS console or the Properties dialog box for an IIS Web Site. This means if someone accidentally deletes a website from the IIS console, you can recover it easily and SharePoint need never know it was missing.
