Controlling user access is a fundamental concern to SharePoint Administrators and it is where they earn a lot of our bread and butter. I mean, really, what good is SharePoint if no one can use it? But nothing is worse than having users unable to get to the information they need or allowing someone to get to information that they are not supposed to see. Access management is a prime area of focus in the administrator's life, if you plan and implement user access correctly, life goes much more smoothly. WSS 3.0 user security is improved over the previous version with a finer level of granularity and more authentication options.
