13.7. Web Application Management
If you are managing a small WSS implementation, you may find that you have little need to manage your web applications using STSADM. There aren't any significant differences between what can be achieved with each respective tool either the GUI or command line.
However, if you are lucky enough to be able to manage WSS configured as part of a web farm, the STSADM method may allow you to more quickly and consistently reproduce tasks, specifically in the area of creating/extending your virtual servers (web applications). Also keep in mind that you can provision Alternate Access Mappings or Zones using STSADM as well.
Table 13.5 shows a list of operations you can use.
