9.2. Setting Up a VPN
In the remainder of this chapter, we'll set up a VPN using Windows 2000. Many of these steps are conceptually similar or equal to what you would do to implement any VPN product.
Microsoft VPN supports both PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) and L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol). We'll show you how to set up a PPTP session because it's a straightforward process. L2TP VPNs are much more powerful, but they also involve establishing a PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) as well as additional work.
