12.13. Windows 2000

Windows 2000 includes many security features:

  • Active Directory, which is designed to replace the flat security structure of the current domain architecture (discussed earlier in this chapter)

  • Encrypting File System

  • Kerberos version 5

  • Public key certificate services

  • IPSEC support

  • Support for smart cards

12.13.1. File System Permissions

The Windows 2000 NTFS permissions build on those established with NT, but with some differences. The following permissions are available for folders and files:
