Coordinate Systems
The space may have up to three dimensions, where various coordinate systems, having up to three axes, may be considered. These axes may be orthogonal with each other. In the present chapter, we have considered the coordinate systems having orthogonal axes; Cartesian coordinate system, Spherical polar coordinate system, Cylindrical polar coordinate system (special case of last two systems, the plane polar coordinate system). Orthogonality and various properties of these coordinate systems have been investigated. The unit vectors of Cartesian coordinate system do not vary with time, whereas of other coordinate systems do so.
