CHAPTER 5

Dynamics of a System of Particles

In this chapter, we consider a system consists of n particles, where n is a large integer. These particles may interact with each and may be acted by some external forces. The impact of these internal and external forces may appear in the form of the changes of the motions of the particles. Here, we have discussed in detail about the dynamics of a system of particles. We have also given a review of historical development of mechanics.

1. Review of historical development of mechanics

In the beginning, human would have noticed natural phenomena, such as

• Rising of Sun • Setting of Sun • Phases of Moon
• Stars • Solar eclipse • Lunar eclipse
• Comets • Meteors and so on
