Multirender Passes
You can use several methods to create render passes in Maya. As discussed in Chapter 6, “Texturing and Lighting a Vehicle, Part 2,” you can create a few basic render passes through the Render Pass Options section of a render layer's Attribute Editor tab. In addition, you can create specialized passes by assigning a material override to a particular layer. However, these methods are somewhat limited. When using the mental ray renderer, however, you have access to a wide array of render passes through the multirender pass system.
