Hair 101
Creating CG hair takes some real-world knowledge. Don't worry, you don't have to go cut someone's hair in order to build it in 3D, but it would help. Understanding the way hair responds based on different haircuts lets you to anticipate the hair's motion and interpret the technique. It gives you the necessary knowledge to identify the methods used in the style and allows you to derive a plan for re-creating it. Getting hair cut to the right length is the first step. Without the right haircut, there is little hope of replicating the look and motion.
