Objective 4.5: Design and Deploy High Availability and Disaster Recovery for Edge Transport Role
On networks that use them, Edge Transport servers can serve as a single point of failure for messages entering or exiting the Exchange infrastructure. If the Edge Transport server is down, email communication with the outside world may be lost. For this reason if your Exchange 2010 design does include Edge Transport servers, you need to ensure that the solution is highly available so that the loss of one Edge Transport server doesn’t block the passages of messages to and from the outside world.
