At one time in the business world, the data network was a convenience, enabling users to access shared printers and files. If a workstation experienced a problem with its network connectivity, the user could continue to work on most tasks. Today, however, users often rely on the network for their applications and their communications, as well as storage and resource sharing. Without the Web, without e-mail, without network applications, productivity stops, so network configuration troubleshooting is one of the most important skills for the desktop administrator.
