7.2. Internet Information Services
Internet Information Services 7.0 is included as a role you can add within Windows Server 2008. IIS is used as a web server; in other words, it is used to serve web pages to clients.
A client can be any system (Microsoft or non-Microsoft) running a web browser such as Internet Explorer. A page is requested, IIS creates HTML-formatted pages, and the client receives the HTML page and displays it in the browser.
Earlier in this chapter, I discussed both TS Web Access and TS Gateway. Both of these Terminal Services role services require IIS. Even if you aren't hosting a specific website, you will need to add the Web Server (IIS) role to support these services.
