9.1. Shadow Copies

Shadow Copies is a capability that can easily be enabled that allows users to restore files on their own without the intervention of an administrator. When enabled, a user is able to restore deleted files or restore a file to its previous version.

You can enable Shadow Copies only on NTFS drives. When you are configuring Shadow Copies, you can choose where to store the previous versions and how often to create previous versions. Be careful, though. Once you enable Shadow Copies, you can't change the location without losing all your previous versions, so it's a good idea to pay attention to where the previous versions will be stored.
