12.3. Business Intelligence and Excel Services
The other major BI element covered in this chapter is Excel Services. Although the Report Center may offer numerous methods of presenting and filtering information, much of that information has a single source: the Excel workbook. As previously mentioned, Excel Services is SharePoint's ability to present spreadsheet workbook data from a single, server-based source to multiple presentation elements including Excel Web Access web parts and KPIs. Excel Services consists of three specific components:
Excel Calculation Services (ECS) This is the engine that drives Excel Services in SharePoint, including loading workbooks, calculating internal and external data, and maintaining sessions.
