Chapter 2

The Foundation for This Book

The goal of this book is to shed new light on what top organizational executives consider success in learning and development. The source of this new light is a set of data collected for this book that asked CEOs and other top executives what measures really mattered to them when describing the success of any learning initiative.

This chapter provides:

  • a brief summary of the frustrations traditionally experienced by CEOs when reviewing “successful” measures
  • a cogent explanation of why CEOs and top learning executives often find they are not on the same page when discussing the value of learning
