Chapter 6: Autonomous weapons
Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI), behavioral science, and mechanism design are all areas with the potential to affect the creation and usage of autonomous weapons systems (AWS). AI can be used to build autonomous weapons that are more accurate and effective than human-operated weaponry. It may also be used to create weapons that are less susceptible to hacking or malfunction. However, AI presents ethical problems since it has the potential to be utilized to construct weapons capable of killing without human interference. Behavioral science may help us understand people's choices in complicated and unpredictable situations. This information may be used to create AWS, which will likely make more ethical judgments. ...
