Objectives
The objectives of this chapter are that, after studying it, the reader should be able to:
- Describe centralised, hierarchical and distributed control systems, network configurations and methods of transmitting data and protocols used.
- Describe the Open Systems Interconnection communication model.
- Describe commonly used communication interfaces: RS-232, IEEE 488, 20 mA current loop, I2C bus and CAN.
