Súil Eile. Media, sociolinguistic change and the Irish Language

1 Introduction

Súil Eile is an Irish language expression which means ‘a different view’, and the aim of this chapter is to offer a difference perspective on the nature of the relationship between media, minority languages and sociolinguistic change. The chapter shares with recent research the idea that the media is a site for the (re) production of language ideologies through it’s valorization of alternative and/ or new linguistic practice (Androutsopoulos 2009).
