Organizational Data and the Five Challenges of Managing Data Quality

Abstract

This chapter describes the five challenges in data quality management (data, process, technology, people, and culture/organization) and proposes that organizations that want to get more value and insight from their data should take a strategic approach to data quality management. This is because quality is not an accident, and it cannot be an afterthought, especially in today’s complex organizations. This chapter provides the context for Section 2 and introduces critical terminology used throughout the book.
