The Technical Challenge: Data/Technology Balance
Abstract
This chapter discusses the deep connection between the data we produce and the technology through which we create, collect, manage, access, and use it. Data brings value only when it is used. Without reliable, technical management of data, people cannot access and use data. Unfortunately, incorrect assumptions about the relationship between technology and data often result in poor-quality data. Organizations must manage their technology to support their data strategy, while avoiding the risk of being sucked into technology hype. Both data and technology must serve organizational goals.
