Planning for more sustainable urban development

S.M. Wheeler,     University of California, Davis, USA

As the activity that formulates and seeks to achieve community goals, planning is crucially important in order to bring about more sustainable metropolitan regions. In recent years, cities have sought to integrate sustainability goals into their planning. Although such efforts are still in the early stages, planning offers a path toward a more sustainable metropolitan future.
