While virtual learning worlds are a relatively new tool for delivering instruction in the field of online, web-based learning, nascent guidelines, and best practices are emerging. Although these practices are not guided by empirically backed research studies because the field is so new, the following guidelines and suggestions are based on our experiences delivering graduate-level courses in virtual learning worlds, our work with several organizations creating virtual world instruction for their employees, and our direct observation and discussions with learners interacting with each other and the environment within virtual learning worlds.
