The primary goal of effective use of micromessaging is performance improvement. The purpose is clear and communicated to all; nothing is clandestine or disguised. In fact, colleagues typically notice and appreciate the new messages being sent, and they are encouraged to reciprocate.
However, there is also a dark side to micromessaging. The process can be used to achieve our own objectives at the expense of others. Although most people gravitate to micromessaging because of what it has to offer in achieving business objectives, occasionally they make it “all about me.”
