There is something about the ritual of cradling a pen with your fingers, gliding it on a piece of paper, having your hand feel the texture of the substrate, watching the ink form words, and the connection between your thoughts, your hands, and the piece of paper that makes an environmentalist like me feel like a walking contradiction. I sign up for paperless billing to save the trees but I can’t go to an off-price retailer like Home Goods or TJ Maxx without coming home with fancy notebooks and journaling materials. It would have been great if I’m journaling instead of just using fancy paper to write my to-do list that’s the same list as in my electronic task tracking apps. I’ve sometimes wondered if I’d be one of the holdouts if we ever get to a point of having to choose between making paper obsolete in favor of the digital alternatives. At least that’s what I wondered until I discovered OneNote.
