Custom Workflow Activities
Custom workflow activities enable you to extend the steps available when you create a workflow. By default, you can create steps for create, update, assign, send email, and so on. For example, if you need to add a step that is not on this list, such as sending an SMS message or calling an external web service, you will need to build a custom workflow activity to do so.
As a difference from the no-code workflows illustrated previously in this chapter, custom workflow activities are compiled in dynamic link libraries (DLL), and you will be able to use them from the Workflow interface found in either the web or Outlook client applications as new steps.
