Chapter 19. Understanding the Other Customization Options

As you have seen in preceding chapters, Dynamics CRM 2011 provides a broad range of options for customizing the application without having to write any code. In addition to the concepts presented in other chapters of this section, a number of other options are available for customization from the user interface. This chapter covers these additional customization options.

Customizing Option Sets

In Chapter 17, we briefly covered using option sets when customizing fields and forms within entities. Option sets are picklists that can be reused across multiple entities in Dynamics CRM. Use option sets if you expect to use the same picklist on multiple forms.

Creating new option sets and customizing existing option sets can be performed within the customizations area.

Use the steps below to create or customize an option set.

  1. In Dynamics CRM, navigate to the Settings area.

  2. Select which solution you want to add option sets to:

    • For the default solution, navigate to Customizations and select Customize the System.

    • For a custom solution, navigate to Solutions and then open the solution that you wish to modify.

  3. In the list of solution components, choose the Option Sets item.

  4. Click New to add a new option set (or click an existing option set if you wish to make changes).
