Penalties and the Evolutionary Solver

You can use the Evolutionary Solver to find solutions to optimization problems in which the target cell and/or changing cells involve nonsmooth functions, such as IF, ABS, MAX, MIN, COUNTIF, COUNTIFS, SUMIF, SUMIFS, AVERAGEIF, and AVERAGEIFS.

Before you use the Evolutionary Solver to solve a problem, take the following steps to increase the efficiency with which the Evolutionary Solver attacks a problem:

  1. In the Analysis group of the Data tab, click Solver.
