Data Series & Points

A data series is a group of related data in a chart. A data series normally corresponds to the values in a linked range of cells in a single column or row of a single worksheet. When plotted on a chart, each data series is assigned its own color or pattern.

Each cell within a data series is called a data point. Data points are individually plotted on a chart.

You can change data series included in a chart at any time using four different methods:

  • Use Range Finder handles to modify a series in an embedded chart.

  • Use the Source Data dialog to add, modify, or remove a series.

  • Use the Copy and Paste commands to paste in a new series.

  • Use drag-and-drop editing to add a new series.
