Exchange Server 2003 is Microsoft's enterprise-class platform for messaging and collaboration. Far more than just e-mail, it provides corporations with a backbone for communication, collaboration, and information sharing. Exchange 2003 builds on the Exchange 2000 Server code base, providing many new features and improvements in areas such as reliability, manageability, and security. When Microsoft began working on Exchange 2003—then code-named Titanium—the company had three main areas of focus for the project:
