A matter of manipulation

This chapter reviewed how the CAS server role handles incoming client connections for multiple protocols. Apart from handling MAPI connections, the fundamental nature of this work has not changed much since Exchange 2007. However, Exchange 2010 introduces a whole new range of work for the CAS to do, so let’s review how the Mailbox Replication Service, a new service that runs on the CAS, is responsible for manipulating mailboxes. We also need to talk about some other services that support user activity, so that’s next on our list.
