Send connectors

Exchange uses send connectors to send SMTP messages between hub transport servers and outside the organization. Every hub transport server automatically includes a send connector to be able to exchange messages with other hub transport servers. You see no trace of the default send connector if you examine details of a hub transport server through EMC. However, you can gain some insight into the properties used by Exchange to control the default send connector with the Get-TransportServer cmdlet. The following output is an extract of the complete output from the command, which has been edited for clarity. There are a lot of transport configuration settings that you can tweak!
