Since Exchange 2010, Microsoft has had to walk a thin line to develop software that can run as well in a traditional on-premises deployment as in its Office 365 cloud service. Companies have offered hosted Exchange services for years, and many continue to compete successfully against Office 365 with products based on Exchange 2013.
