The motivation to upgrade
The first point in a deployment project is to understand why you want to deploy Exchange 2013. Different circumstances dictate the ability and willingness of companies to proceed with the deployment of a new version of Exchange, including these common scenarios:
They might currently run a very early version of Exchange, including Exchange 5.5 (released in 1997 and still in use in limited circumstances today).
They might have declined to upgrade from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 because their current infrastructure met their needs.
