5 The Store
At its core, Exchange is a database application, albeit one that is highly tuned for the kind of transactions that a messaging system generates. The Information Store, or simply “the Store,” lies at the heart of Exchange. Without a well-configured and managed Store, an Exchange server cannot provide a reliable and robust service to users.
Exchange 2007 introduces a number of changes for the Store, including an increase in the number of supported storage groups, internal changes that result from the move to the 64-bit platform, and database portability between servers.
