Operating System Support

An often missed change in many new Microsoft products is the shift to 64-bit computing. Lync Server is no exception to this trend because it is available only in a 64-bit edition. This means, of course, that the servers on which Lync Server are hosts must have processors that support a 64-bit architecture. The operating system must also be 64-bit.

The client, however, does not have the same requirements. The Lync client for Lync Server can be run as either a 64-bit or 32-bit application with no change in available features. As such, the following operating systems are supported for Lync Server:

• Windows 2008 SP2 x64 Standard

• Windows 2008 SP2 x64 Enterprise

• Windows 2008 SP2 x64 Data Center

• Windows 2008 R2 x64 Standard ...
