Creating Translation Rules

Translation rules are a powerful new feature first introduced in Lync Server 2010 that enables digit manipulation to a PBX or media gateway. Lync Server recommends that all numbers be in the E.164 format, but a PBX or gateway might be configured for local dialing or might require special access codes before accepting dial strings. Lync Server 2013 has expanded on the initial functionality and now includes the capability to manipulate the calling party of numbers on a trunk.

Trunk translation rules are assigned to trunk configurations and behave identically to dial plan normalization rules. Administrators can define the translation rules either by using regular expressions or by using the Translation Rule tool.
