Tail-End Hop Off

The difference between least cost routing and tail-end hop off (TEHO) is that whereas LCR is geared toward reducing toll charges for calls between employees, TEHO is geared toward reducing costs for calls to the PSTN numbers.

In a simple scenario for Company ABC, the San Francisco users have voice policies that route all calls out the local gateway or trunk, and Chicago users have separate voice policies to route calls out their local gateway trunk. There is nothing wrong with this configuration, and it works just fine. However, if a San Francisco user calls a Chicago-area phone number, it is placed as a long-distance call out the San Francisco gateway and incurs toll charges.
