Introduction
Microsoft released .NET Compact Framework version 1.0 as part of the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 product in April 2003. The .NET Compact Framework brings the benefits of managed code development to mobile devices with a slimmed-down class library and an execution engine optimized for use on Microsoft Windows CE–based operating systems. The .NET Compact Framework doesn't support the full feature set of the desktop framework, but that is what you expect on a small, battery-powered device, and most mobile application developers agree that version 1.0 was a great product.
